Peter Vidmar was the premier male gymnast for the United States in the 1984 Olympics. As the USA team captain, he led his teammates to this country's first ever gold medal with their upset over the Peoples Republic of China. He then captured the gold medal on the pommel horse with a perfect score of 10. He became the highest scoring US gymnast in Olympic history.
