From Third Generation Gang Member to Harvard Graduate....THE CHANGE has captivated audiences!
Richard Santana, Ed. M. was born in California and became the third generation of his family to join one of the largest gangs in California. After several years of drugs, crime, and violence on the streets; he left that life, crediting education, community programs, and teachers with paving the way.
Richard experienced a transformation. Eventually, in 1995, he graduated from Harvard University's Graduate School of Education, Human Development and Psychology/Risk Prevention Program.
As a captivating speaker, Richard uses his personal gang-life experiences to illustrate his former destructive attitudes and behaviors. Mr. Chocolate, a tough-talking Latino gangster, arrives on stage with trade-mark baggy pants shades, trench coat, and red bandana. Using a thick Spanish accent to make his point, he captures his audience. After sharing his story of gang life, Mr. Chocolate explains The Change that occurred--and can occur in everyone's life while shedding the gang clothing. Richard emerges dressed in a shirt and tie as a college graduate, educator, counselor, and friend.
