Interactive Training, Inc. Releases Coaching & Counseling Practices CD-ROM
Second disc in Coping with Organizational Change series helps companies compete more effectively by providing instruction for building facilitation skills.
FRAMINGHAM, MA October 7, 1996 -- Interactive Training, Inc. today announced it is releasing the second CD-ROM title - Coaching & Counseling Practices: An Interactive Workshop in Facilitation Skills - in the series, Coping with Organizational Change. Other scheduled titles will focus on team building and general supervisory skills.
"We are excited to release the second in our series. The first, Workshop in Conflict Solutions, has had favorable reviews and sold well, and we believe offering a consistent, comprehensive, cost-effective series of titles in the critical area of organizational change provides a needed and effective resource to the market," said Interactive Training's President and CEO Paul H. Earl.
Coaching & Counseling Practices runs on the Windows, Windows 95, and Macintosh platforms. It's based on the work of John W. Baker, II, of BCV Associates, a widely recognized authority in the human resource training field who has consulted on organizational change issues to scores of public, private, government, and non-profit organizations around the world.
"Today's professional manager requires coaching skills to deal with movement toward an empowered organization with employees and associates," Baker said. "Further, managers need the flexibility to respond in team-oriented environments as well as the utilization of such skills for the development of individuals enhancement." "In addition, the manager's ability to coach, counsel, and mentor becomes more critical in a global marketplace where adaptability and rapid change by subordinates is mandated to remain competitive."
According to Training Magazine, U.S. employers last year spent $52 billion on formal training for 50 million people, of which $10 billion went for seminars, computers, and packaged training programs. In addition, surveys found that 40% of all organizations are moving toward team-based structures, while 70% of all organizations are providing team-building training. Baker noted that CD-ROM technology enhances the way training is delivered while reducing organizational costs. "While it's our belief that technology should not replace the trainer, technology does dramatically reduce the cost of implementation."
Key features of the Coaching & Counseling Practices disc include nine interactive exercises and eight role plays that allow the user to use the computer as an interactive "prop." The ability to print any or all sections of the disc lets users create their own custom workbook based on the disc.
Over one and one-half hours of tutorials and exercises let users set their own pace for learning, while the CD-ROM medium lets them work on the material when it's most convenient for them. In addition, an integrated notepad utility provides a convenient way to make and save notes for future reference, while comprehensive self tests for each section, glossary, bibliography, and a library of related Internet resources completes the disc.
Key sections of the disc include:
- Background: Goals and objectives; opening questions; values and attitudes; characteristics for effectiveness; and coaching scouting report.
- Setting the Scene: Climate setting; communication; and coaching transaction.
- Coaching Processes: Framing the process; coaching skills inventory; coaching specialties.
- Coaching and Counseling Fundamentals: Listening and non-verbal behavior skills; feedback techniques and caution signs; intervention methods; displaying empathy.
- Special Applications: Teams; defense mechanisms; symptoms; problem people.
