Introducing Central Vermont
Welcome!Take a minute to learn more about Central Vermont and you will find that this area is blessed with the best of all worlds - pristine beauty, impressive cultural activities, scores of recreational opportunities, a solid business base, and strong family values. Central Vermont is rich in tradition, proud of its communities, and committed to its future. Each city and town is unique - each with its own history and personality.
Montpelier is the seat of state government and home to major insurance companies. Barre is a manufacturing center dominated by granite-related industries. Waterbury, Berlin, and Northfield host the majority of other commercial activity although most towns have a village center with many small businesses. Resort towns in the Mad River Valley have the special character all their own. The hospitality industry dominates these towns, but not the landscape.
Among the business that are most well known for their Vermont products are Cabot Cooperative Creamery, Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory, Cold Hollow Cider Mill, and a number of maple syrup producers. Much of the region's manufacturing is based on the processing of native agricultural products. Granite quarrying and processing provides a wide variety architecture, monuments and statuary that have created a visual presence throughout the region.
Tucked in the towns and hillside of Central Vermont are more than 2,500 businesses - most with less than 10 employees - providing jobs for 30,000 Vermonters and their families. However, the region's most recruiting visuals are the natural splendor of the Green Mountains and the rolling hills, barns and farmhouses of the region's agriculture. Lakes and streams punctuate this landscape.
