About the Program
Now is your chance to learn the secrets to building a web site will attract thousands of visitors, entertain and inform your clients and customers, and keep people coming back for more. Come meet the team whose combined creative talent and technical expertise produced one of the hottest sites on the Internet.
Cartalk.com: a driving force on the 'Net
Cartalk.com is the offspring of the hugely popular Car Talk radio show that is now broadcast on National Public Radio across the country. Tom Magliozzi, Car Talk creator, and Tom Lix of NewMarket Ventures, teamed up for the challenge of creating an on-line site that would live up to the Car Talk radio phenomenon. The resulting site provides hours on end of automotive news and entertainment to the Car Talk addict. Don't miss this rare opportunity, sponsored by the Boston AMA, to hear the cartalk.com engineers discuss how to give your web site a tune-up!
About the speakers
Tom Lix, NewMarket Ventures, Inc.
www.newmarket-ventures.com
Tom Lix (with a doctorate in Marketing - which he tries to keep secret) is the founder and President/CEO of NewMarket Ventures. He's been president of a database software company, MarketPulse, as well as President/COO of the international marketing consultancy, Yankelovich Partners, Inc. (at the time they were a Saatchi & Saatchi company). More importantly (so he'll tell you), he was once a "true hippie", peace activist and college dropout, hitch-hiked cross-country, fought forest fires in Alaska, spent six years traveling the world in the Navy, and was the founder of the first university-sponsored motorcycle club in America. On the more serious side, he's consulted for a wide range of clients, including AMEX, CNN, Compaq, Dow Brands, FEDEX, Holiday Inn, Club Med, IBM, Nickelodeon/MTV, and Time Magazine. An Active member of the American Marketing Association, Dr. Lix is a former chairman of the Boston Chapter and frequent speaker on interactive relationship marketing.
Tom Magliozzi, Dewey, Cheetham & Howe

Dr. Magliozzi currently spends his time in and around Cambridge working with his brother Ray on one of his many projects: his Cart Talk radio show, his newspaper column, or his new web site. The Magliozzi brothers can be found on 418 NPR radio affiliates where they have over 2.4 million listeners, and in over 200 newspapers across the country. Their offbeat humor and unique approach to radio have earned them many distinctions including a 1992 Peabody Award. They have also been features on such popular shows as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The David Letterman Show, The Today Show, and 60 Minutes. Tom has spent time as a college professor at Boston University and Suffolk University, a garage mechanic, and a consultant. He now spends his time doing the radio show, ranting and raving on the world wide web, doing odd jobs, and drinking cappuccino in Harvard Square.
